What is the Elementor global widget?

We will start with the basics.

A global widget is a widget that appears on all pages you need to appear. Sometimes, you might want to create a custom widget and customize it as per your choice. After you customize it, you might also want to add the same widget to multiple places.

When you add the same widget elsewhere, you will have to customize it again. Nevertheless, it will always help you in the editing part. If you want to edit all the widgets, you can edit one widget and it will edit all the widgets that you have set. In simpler words, you just have to edit the global widget and the effect will take place in all the widgets of all the pages. Of course, these are the global widgets that you have set.

There are many things that people might want to do here. For instance, they might want to edit the widget at one place after some time or they might simply want to unlink it. We will see this topic too.

So, let’s get started and see how you can make a global widget.

Getting Elementor Pro

Before you get started, it’s important to know that you will need a pro version of Elementor. The free version doesn’t allow you to make tech changes in the global. You can’t create a global widget in the free version. So, if you want to create the global widget, you will have to shift to Elementor pro. There is no other option for you here.

Once you shift to Elementor pro, you will be able to create the global widget.

If you want to know more about it, you can create any page and then see the left panel in the Elementor free version. When you see the free version, you will see that there is an option for Global but when you click on it, it will ask you for the pro version.

Therefore, you will need the pro version. Once you have the pro version, you can get started and see all the steps to do it. We have covered a step-by-step guide on how to use the Elementor global widget and set any widget as the global widget with ease.

Creating an Elementor global widget

It’s super easy to create a global widget in Elementor. To create one, you will have to open a blank page on Elementor. Don’t worry, you can open any page.

At first, you will have to create a normal widget. You surely might have some things in your mind, right? You can create the widget that you want to use as a global widget. Here, we will take an example of a simple Text Editor. This will be the example that we will use throughout the guide.

You can simply create a new widget or directly take the widget from the given ones. Once you take the widget, you will have to make the changes there. You can make the changes there as per your wish. As this is a normal widget, you can make the changes just like you do in the normal widget.

Once you make the changes, we will have to set it as a global widget. To do that, we will have to do a small procedure. You can simply right-click on the widget and there will be an option to set it as a global widget.

When you click on it, it will ask you to give a name. You can give the name to your global widget and then save the widget.

That’s pretty much it. You have now successfully saved the widget as the global widget. You can then view the global widget and also set it anywhere you want.

To summarize, here are the steps.

  • Create a widget and customize it.
  • Right-click on it and hit “Set as Global”.

We will now see how you can set the global widget to anywhere you want.

Therefore, we will have to ensure that we are adding it to all the pages we need. Once it is added to all of the pages, we can edit the widget and it will make the edits everywhere. This section will cover how we can add the widget anywhere we want.

At first, you will have to open the page where you want to add the global widget. For instance, if you want to add the global widget to the sidebar and footer, you can open the sidebar page and the footer page.

When you have opened the section with Elementor, in the left panel, you will see two main tabs. One is from where we can add the regular widgets and the other one will be for the global. We will have to click on the global tab in the left panel.

In the global tab, you will find all the Elementor global widgets that we have made. If you are following the exact guide, it will only show one widget here as we have only created one widget so far.

To summarize the steps.

  • Click on the Global tab and drag the widget

There will be many options in the drop-down menu, you need to find the global template that we just created above. It will show the name of the widget that we set earlier. When you click on it, it will allow you to add the global widget there. Don’t worry, there will be an option that indicates that it’s a global widget. So, you can confirm that it’s a global widget.

Not to mention, you can also create a global widget from here. The editing can also be done from here. It will act just like the global widget which you create from the Elementor page builder. So, there is nothing to worry about here.

Adding Global Widget using Shortcode
